There’s A Lot To Love About Sufjan Stevens’ Electronic Supergroup

Sufjan Stevens and hip-hop guys Son Lux and Serengeti have come together to make a catchy, moving album.

Sisyphus is the collaborative project from perennially beloved indie artist Sufjan Stevens and underground hip-hop vets Son Lux and Serengeti.

Their new self-titled album brings together the glitchy instrumentation Stevens experimented with on his album Age of Adz and Sun Lux's frenetic beats. Serengeti, a rapper versatile enough to handle music this nuts, does the vocals. The result is an accessible, emotional listen.

Stevens and Serengeti first got together in 2009 on “Blood Pt. 2,” a remix from Buck 65, on the compilation Dark Was the Night. You could tell the artists had a lot of chemistry together.

The same three artists worked together again in 2012 under the moniker s/s/s and released the album Beak and Claw.

This new Sisyphus album shifts towards a denser sound than that previous effort. There are erratic, fun tracks, like “Booty Call”:

Apple Vows To Make Emojis More Racially Diverse

Many have asked why there are no black emoji characters. Apple said Tuesday the company is working to update the keyboard to be more multicultural.

The emoji keyboard was first introduced in Japan, but only features two emojis that appear to be Asian: a “man with a turban” and a “man with Gua Pi Mao,” a type of Chinese hat. But the emoji keyboard features more than a dozen faces that look white.

Emoji characters have been standardized by Unicode Consortium since 2010, so as to appear on all computers and mobile devices the same. Other apps offer emojis, but users risk their friends not being able to see them if they haven't installed the same software.

The Hard Truths Maisie Williams Learned While Growing Up On “Game Of Thrones”

The 16-year-old British actress talks about how she de-Arya Starks herself, the struggles she’s faced at school, and why she has a lot of admiration for Miley Cyrus.

Lucas Jackson / Reuters

Maisie Williams has been playing one of the youngest and certainly most audacious of the noble Stark offspring since George R.R. Martin's best-selling novels were translated to the screen with HBO's acclaimed Game of Thrones, which launched in 2011. The Bristol-born actress was just 12 years old when she first breathed life into the fearless tomboy character, a favorite of viewers and of readers of Martin's series. Now, she's a 16-year-old who loves manicures and Andrew Garfield and who's become quite courageous in her own right as well. Ask her a question and she responds with a wisdom far beyond her years and a directness that is refreshing in Hollywood.

“Someone once told me that if you respect a person, listen to their opinion. And if you do not respect someone, then do not listen to their opinion,” she said of the biggest lesson she's learned over the course of the past four years. “And that works both ways.”

The day after the Game of Thrones Season 4 premiere in New York in mid-March, Williams sat in a floral print tunic top in a suite at a posh Midtown hotel, looking incredibly petite on the room's massive, but pristine couch. “I stress out so much about the red carpet and interviews and pictures, and, you know, not getting my skirt tucked in my knickers,” she said frankly of last night's event. “You worry about all of that and then, that's all over and all of sudden [the episode is] playing and you're like, 'No! Wait! Wait! Wait a second. I'm not ready.' It's crazy.”

Thrones is HBO's biggest series since The Sopranos, and Williams is perhaps still getting used to being part of a phenomenon that spans the globe. After stepping out of Arya's very dirty shoes at the end of a season, the teenaged actress tries to dust the character off of her, despite the affinity she has for Arya. One of the first things she does is get a manicure and on this March day, she's sporting black polish with daisy and skull designs.

“I feel like I need to do something just to get back to normal life. And when we finish shooting, I do get a bit sad, so it's just something that makes you feel better about yourself,” she said with a laugh. “If you've got cool nails, you wake up and you're like, Oh, I'm happy now. I'm so easy to please. It's just getting back into Maisie again. I have to do something to just be me again, whether that's — this is going to sound really fake but — getting my extensions in or getting my legs waxed, just something to bring me back into my world. Sometimes I get a spray tan at the end of it, just because then you snap out of that world.”

This Guy’s SoHo Loft May House The Biggest Collection Of Homoerotic Art In New York

Walking into Charles Leslie’s SoHo loft is like entering the calm eye of a cock storm, a whirling phallic dervish spanning continents and centuries. (May be NSFW.)

Hugh Ryan

Every time I visit Charles Leslie's SoHo loft, my eyes have to relearn how to see his apartment, to pick the individual players out of the sexual scrum. Then, like an erotic Magic Eye puzzle, a Warhol suddenly emerges from a thicket of phalli, and the coffee table resolves into a veritable Stonehenge of penises sculpted in glass, ceramic, and even whale bone.

Leslie lives not far from the museum that bears his name, The Leslie + Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. “Lohman” refers to Leslie's longtime partner, renowned interior decorator Fritz Lohman, who passed away four years ago. The two spent 48 years together: traveling the world, collecting and championing gay art, and helping transform SoHo from industrial wasteland to artist enclave to moneyed playground.

The museum is their official legacy, but Leslie's apartment is a distillation of those years: a story of gay life existing on the margins during the buttoned-down 1950s, exploding outward in the '60s and '70s, surviving the “grim and ghastly plague years,” and re-emerging triumphantly into the present — all told through homoerotic and homo-romantic art.

Anne is the only woman left on earth. There is no life. It's just her. She swims in the empty ocean to decompress after a long day of walking through overgrown lawns and foraging for food. She hears a sound and looks back, but it's no one, just the wind talking, saying, “Anne, Anne, it's me, the wind, Anne.”

GOP Senate Candidate On Uninsured: “Less Sophisticated…Less Educated”

In audio obtained by BuzzFeed, Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy spoke at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association’s annual meeting last week about an alternative health care plan with catastrophic insurance and HSA plans for the uninsured.

Speaking about his health care plan, Cassidy, who is also a physician, said it “actually reflects the reality of who the uninsured are: relatively less sophisticated, less comfortable with forms, less educated.”

View Video ›

“That I think actually reflects the reality of who the uninsured are relatively less sophisticated, less comfortable with forms, less educated. Those are the folks that — not all — there’s a guy who goes to my church who’s uninsured, who’s middle-class but couldn’t get it because he has Type I diabetes. So it’s not all, but it is the folks who I think are going to have the hardest time reaching.”

“We were fortunate growing up in the south. The president is a community organizer. You wonder if he ever worked with a poor person…Insurance people they will tell you that they will go to a company and an employer will pay for everything, and there are some people who will not sign up. Turns out, those are my patients. They're illiterate. I'm not saying that to be mean. I say that in compassion. They cannot read. The idea they're going to go on the internet and work through a 16-page document to put in their data and sign up does not reflect on understanding of who is having the hardest time in our economy.”
